Outside in Vocabulary

Maybe it is the salesperson in me, however I have always been amazed at how photographers, IT geeks, and any other technical person talk to the general public. The use of technical terms and concepts seemed intended to drive a wedge between the technical person and their potential customer.
I have been in more than one battle of the techno geeks who try and out duel each other with more and more obscure terms.
The success of Apple has been in understanding that computers are for doing, not using. I don't want to use a word processor, I want to write letters. I don't want to use a photo editing package, I want to make better photos.
While I have been a user of Photoshop since version 1, I am always amazed at how hard it is to explain to new photographers how this tool can help them. Image masks, gaussian blurs and histogram clipping just do not seem to make it to the ordinary person's vocabulary.
